Day 3: Shopping @ City

Boo! It’s another day over here at WUST, Wuhan, China. Was awaken this morning by the repairman who was repairing the locks for the rooms so woke up rather early and slacked around to wait for 11am for the gathering.

While we were waiting for the rest to come down, some of us went to the campus canteen to explore and get some stuff to eat. Most of us got some drinks and hotdogs in the canteen for some light breakfast.

After we had all gathered, we set off to the bus stop to start off the journey of today, shopping around the city area. The bus stop over here at Wuhan, China is rather different from what we have back home in Singapore. The bus stop over here is rather small, and doesn’t have seats so everyone who is waiting for the buses will have to stand up. Some of them even have to stand under the blazing hot sun!

We boarded bus service number 903 and headed down to the city. The bus ride down to the city is approximately around 30mins or so. The bus was cramped and crowded so most of will have to stand like what we will usually do back home in Singapore when the buses is crowded. However, the buses here do not have services like ez-link which we have back home. Over here, there is another lady on board the bus who will be walking down in the bus to collect the bus fare and to issue tickets. The bus ride is approximately RMB2, which is around SGD$0.50 which is the students fare back there!

After some time, we finally reached our destination; we alighted and headed over to the other side of the road to the shopping mall. Once again, it’s free and easy for us! So after we took some group photos outside the shopping mall, we headed off in groups for our lunch as well as our shopping!

We headed down to McDonalds for our lunch. As usual, the McDonalds here is different from what we have back home. The McDonalds here have a few more varieties such as grilled chicken, spicy grilled chicken, and more. And of course, it is definitely cheaper than what it is in Singapore. A set meal of 2 burgers, fries, chicken wings, drinks costs around RMD38 which is approximately SGD$9 which is split by 2 persons. So each person will only have to fork out approximately around SGD$4.50.

After having our lunch, its shopping time! We headed out and walked to various parts of the mall to see if anything catches our eyes.

However, after some time, all of us got bored and decided to find a place to relax and play. Thus, we headed down to the arcade in the mall which we spent quite some time there.

After enjoying ourselves, it’s time for us to go down to gather and head back to campus to have our dinner and to do our stuffs. While we were waiting for the rest to come down to meet us at the gathering point and before we set off back to campus, we got the chance to see the sun set over here! It’s definitely a beautiful sight!

After reaching campus, we went back to our hostel to put down our stuffs and headed out for dinner. We bought some fried rice (again) as well as some other food and headed back to the hostel to slowly enjoy.

Thats all for today! Here are some interesting photos which I took along the way. Click to enlarge. More photos will be uploaded on my facebook! Enjoy! :D

My Reflections:

After the 3rd day over here at Wuhan, I had understand that living at an different environment with different culture and different groups of people, it is necessary for us to know that there are definitely differences between us as well as the people whom we will meet over here in a different country. Thus, it is important for us to tell ourselves that we need to adapt into this different culture, immerse and at the same time, experience something totally different from what we had been experiencing for the past 18 years. This is definitely an important part of this immersion programme as it will help us in our daily lives as well as our career in the near future.
